Abstract

Pegagan is a herbaceous plant that is believed by the people of Indonesia to have many benefits such as anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-cholinergic. The manufacture of pegagan leaves (Centella asiatica (L) Urban) in the form of submicro particle scale aims to overcome the problem of extracts in solubility and stability in the drug formula. Submicro particle preparation extraction using single emulsion solvent evaporation method with poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) polymers and poly (vinyl alcohol) stabilizers (PVA). Submicro particle formulation with a variation concentration of PVA was carried out in this study to determine the effect of PVA concentrations on the characterization of PLGA-pegagan leaf extract particles produced on the value of percent encapsulation efficiency (% EE) and stability with the heating cooling cycle method. The concentration of PVA used 40 mg formula 1, 50 mg of formula 2, and 60 mg of formula 3. Characterization of submicro particle with PSA to measure particle size, PDI (Poly Dispersity Index) and potential zeta value. The proportion of the optimum formula components obtained were 40 mg PVA (Formula 1) with response values which resulted %EE 90.22%. Characterization of particle size 252.1 nm; PDI value is 0.255; and zeta potential value is -0.6 mV. Measurement of the optimum pH of the formula for 6 cycles showed an insignificant increase in pH values with a range of 5.37-5.87 included in the category of a good pH range of drug preparations.
