Abstract

Leachate is a liquid that is produced from the process of waste spoilage in the final provided place (TPA). Leachate has the potential to contaminate soil, water, and air, the requirements for leachate water flow are allowed to flow to the surface of the ground so that it can pollute the surrounding environment including humans. Toxicity tests were carried out to determine the level of leachate toxicity to tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus Linn) with LC50. The aim of this research is to find the LC50 value of the Palemraya landfill leachate. The research was conducted from May to July 2019 at the Biosystematics Laboratory of Biology Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. The method used in this research is an experimental, this method is used to determine the toxicity of leachate water by LC50 test at various concentrations (0%, 10%, 18%, 18%, 32%, 56%, and 70%) using test animals in the form of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus Linn) and seen every 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours and 96 hours. The results showed that at 24 hours of observation the LC50 value of 55.4%, the LC50 value of 48 hours was 45.33%, the LC50 value of 72 hours was 39.83% and the LC50 value of 96 hours was 33.16%. In addition, the physical condition of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus Linn) exposed to leachate water showed a change in color on the part of the gills that were originally red when exposed to leachate turned to pale. Other changesare also shown on the body of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus Linn)which contains a lot of mucus and scales loss. Based on the research results obtained LC50 values of leachate water at 24 hours, exposure is higher than LC50 values 48, 72 and 96 hours, leachate water toxicity can affect the physical condition (morphology) of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus Linn) in the gills, scales, and eyes.
