Abstract

Gold Craftsmen is a job which requires using eyes repetitively and because the job is a home industry hence there is no rules or limit that set their working hourand rest time therefore gold craftmen has the risk to get eye’s trouble such as asthenopia syndrome. This study aims to know the risk factors which influences asthenopia syndrome. This study is an analytic studyusing cross secsional design. This study takes 94 respondents of gold crafstmen in Tanjung Batu Village as sample. Using univariat and bivariat technique to analyze the data. The study showed 46 respondents (48,9) of gold craftsmen experience asthenopia syndrome. The results of chi square’s test shows age to asthenopia syndrome (p-value = 0,004), refractive disorder to asthenopia syndrome (p-value = 1,000), light intensity to asthenopia syndrome (p-value = 0,000), length of work toasthenopia syndrome (p-value = 0,236), years of work to asthenopia syndrome (p-value = 0,232), time of rest to asthenopia syndrome (p-value = 0,238).There is a significant correlation between age and light intensity to asthenopia syndrome in gold craftsmen. It is advisable to the gold craftsmen to work ergonomically and do eye rest to prevent the occurrence of complaints of eye fatigue.
