Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of adhesion temperature and various types of connection the characteristics of pineapple leaf fibers. The research was conducted in November 2018 until April 2020, in the workshop of the Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, and testing was carried out at the Sriwijaya State Polytechnic Chemical Engineering Laboratory, Palembang. This study use a factorial completely randomized design (RALF) method with two treatment factors namely gluing temperature which consists of 3 levels, 40oC, 50oC, 60oC and the type of connection consists of two levels, straight connection and overlapping connection. This study use three parameters, namely the Tensile Strength / strand (gf ), the Tensile Strength / bundle, and the elongation test (%). The results of this study indicated that differences in adhesion temperature and type of connection on pineapple leaves affect the tensile strength / bundle (gf), tensile strength / strand (gf) and elongation (%). Interaction combination of the adhesion temperature and the type of connection significantly affects the tensile strength (gf) and elongation (%) of F max and E max. The best treatment in this study for tensile strength was found in the combination of A3B2 (temperature 60oC and type of overlapping connection), while for the best treatment in stretching test was on A3B2 (temperature of 600C and type of overlapping connection)
