Abstract

This study aims to design a fiber roller tool from pineapple leaves. This research was carried out in November 2019 to April 2020 at the Machine and Machine Workshop of the Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, South Sumatra. The method used in this research is Engineering Design. This research was carried out in three stages, namely 1) the design approach stage consisting of a series of activities including the determination of design criteria, functional and structural design, 2) manufacturing and assembling stages, 3) structural, functional and performance design testing stages. The effectiveness of the design of a pineapple fiber roller is determined by the rotation speed of the roller rollers and the physical properties of the fiber to be rolled. Testing the effectiveness of this tool uses two rolling speed rotating factors (A) and adhesive drying time (B). The total electric power for the electric motor is turned on by 1706.5 w and the total use of Heatgun for 10 minutes of usage is 43398.4 W. The gearbox used is able to reduce the turning speed 50 times so as to produce three levels of rotational speed, namely the speed of 195 rpm to 3.9 rpm, 240 rpm to 4.8 rpm and 275 rpm to 5.5 rpm. Rolling fiber with a length of 94 cm using a rolling speed of 3.9 rpm produces a rolling calculation every 1 minute rolling up 36.7 cm of fiber, rolling fiber with a length of 94 cm using a rolling speed of 4.8 rpm produces a rolling calculation every 1 minute rolling up 45.2 fibers cm and a roll of fiber with a length of 94 cm using a winding speed of 5.5 rpm resulting in a calculation of winding every 1 minute curling 51.8 cm of fiber.
