Abstract

The Laboratory of Pharmacy Chemistry Analysis, FMIPA Sriwijaya University is one of the laboratories that uses chemicals in its activities. One aspect of laboratory safety is the application of chemical management. The purpose of this study was to analyze the implementation of chemical management in the Laboratory of Pharmacy Chemistry Analysis FMIPA, Sriwijaya University. This type of research is qualitative research. The research informants were 10 informants who came from the head of the laboratory, analysts and students. The research instrument used observation guidelines and indepth interviews as well as measurements of temperature, humidity and lighting intensity. The results showed that the implementation of chemical procurement was in accordance with the minimize quantites principle, the concept of Less is Better. The implementation of chemical storage in the form of storage shelf height, temperature, humidity and lighting intensity is not yet according to standards. The implementation of chemical handling is appropriate, namely there is an SOP (Standard Operational Procedure) for chemical safety and laboratory use but there is no chemical spill kit facility. The implementation of chemical inventory is appropriate, namely there is a record of the frequency of goods in the form of stock cards and the implementation of inappropriate chemical waste disposal, namely only collection and disposal. So it can be concluded that chemical management has not been implemented properly by laboratory managers. Suggestions for this research are to carry out internal audits of the implementation of chemical management, repair and redesign facilities in chemical storage warehouses, change the stock card laying system and create procedures and disposal of chemical waste.
