Abstract

The purpose of this study is to see whether debt, on solvency, has a significant effect on profitability, which in this study is represented by Debt to total assets (DAR) and Debt to equity ratio (DER). The research period is 2015-2018. The data analysis technique used in this study used simple linear regression analysis, normality test, t-test, and determination coefficient test (R2) with debt as an independent variable represented by debt to assets and debt to equity measured by profitability as the dependent variable represented by the ratio. return on equity. The results of the analysis show that debt has a relationship to profitability in each sub-sector of the company, but has no significant effect on the profitability of the company's sub-sector. So the increase does not increase with an increase in the profitability of the 9 sub-sectors of the company in 2015 - 2018. This is shown by the results of the t-test with a calculated value smaller than the table (1,648 <2.101) means rejected. According to (Ghazanfar & Islahi, 1997) high use of debt but not followed by ROE can be caused by bad economic conditions.
