Abstract
Chemical Engineering Laboratory of Sriwijaya University is one of the buildings that stores flammable and oxidized chemicals and electrical equipment that has a risk of fire. Emergency response plan in the form of means-escape facilities and emergency response procedures can prevent fatalities when fire occurs. Design used in this research is descriptive with qualitative method. Informants selected by purposive sampling. The number of informants 7 people with the details of one person administrator of Chemical Engineering Laboratory, 3 laboratory analysts, and 3 laboratory users. This study aims to calculate the evacuation time based on the SPFE 3rd Handbook of Fire Protection Engineering 2002 and make analysis in accordance with SNI 03-1746-2000, SNI 03-1745-2000, SNI 03-6574-2001, PermenPU No. 20 of 2009 and NFPA 101. Exit doors and stairs are suitably qualified with SNI 03-1746-2000 but have not fulfilled the required number of doors and stairs, the exit acess suitably qualified with SNI 03-6574-2001, there is no exit sign, assembly point is located behind the chemical engineering department building suitably qualified NFPA 101, no written policy regarding emergency response procedures and the time needed for the evacuation to meeting point for 260.8 seconds or 4.3 minutes and has not met the maximum time standard for evacuation according to NFPA 101. Additional exits door are needed on the laboratory and additional stairs on the second floor, put exit sign at every exit access from the laboratory such as on doors and corridor intersections, make emergency response procedures in written form that are placed in each laboratory room, and form a special team to handle fire emergencies.
