Abstract

Most of the breast cancer patients undergo chemotherapy treatment. Chemotherapy can cause side effect for patient both physically and psychologically therefore patient really need family help to overcome the side effect of chemotherapy they are experiencing. But families often do not know the side effect of chemotherapy and how to deal with these side effect therefore it need to be communicated properly. As a nurse who acts as an educator, this problem can be overcome by providing health education to the patient family.Health education can be provided using the educational video method. The study design was quasy-experiment with the one group pretest - posttest design. The number of sample was 48 respondents collected using non random sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaires. The result of data analysis of knowledge variabel using Marginal Homogenity test obtained p value = 0,000, for attitude variabel using McNemar test got value 0,001, and for family support variabel using McNemar test got value 0,002 which means there is difference between knowledge, attitude and family support before and after given health education about chemotherapy side effects. Health workers are expected to increase the provision of health education, especially about the side effects of chemotherapy on the patient's family and for families of patients caring for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment to provide more support and a positive attitude towards patients and to provide advice / praise to patients so that patients will always comply with their chemotherapy treatment program.
