Abstract
In an industrial world that continues to grow rapidly as it is today, there is no denying the use of gray cast iron is very widely used because it is a very important material in the manufacture of several engine components including truck suspension components, lathes, gears. This study aims to analyze the effect of post weld heat treatment on the welding results of shielded metal arc welding. Welding process using shielded metal arc welding using current 120 ampere while for post weld heat treatment using temperature 350° for 1 hour 15 minutes after it is held for 30 minutes then cooled for 2 hours. In chemical composition testing obtained the highest percentage of elements in the form of Fe of 92.7305 % and element C of 3.36%. In dye penetrant testing, the results of several defects of porosity and spatter defects that dominated and no cracks were found on the surface of the gray cast iron specimen. In Rockwell hardness testing conducted on asweld specimens resulted in the highest hardness score of 56.5 HRC and specimens that had been done post weld heat treatment resulted in the highest hardness value of 46 HRC. In micro structural testing obtained a thin and elongated form of graphite in asweld specimens while in post weld heat treatment specimens obtained growth of graphite that enlarged and widened.
