Abstract

One of the biggest causes of death in Indonesia is caused by diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease caused by a person's unhealthy lifestyle. The number of health facilities increases annually with the prevalence of diabetes in Indoneisa. This research is a quantitative study with cross sectional study design and using secondary data of IFLS-5. The theory used is the Andersen's health service utilization model. The sampling technique used multistage random sampling so that a sample of 534 respondents is obtained that matches the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using chi-square analysis and logistic regression. The results showed that respondents who used inpatient services were 90 (16.9%), and outpatients were 237 (44.4%). Economic status is the most dominant variable related to the use of hospitalization, the PR value is 0.593 (95% CI: 0.479 to 0.733) after controlling for other variables. The location of the region is the most dominant variable related to the use of outpatient PR value of 0.602 (95% CI: 0.533-0681) after controlling for other variables. The economic status (very rich) and the location of the region (urban) affect the utilization of health services for diabetics, it is important for the government to be able to enable people of high economic status to use health insurance so that the level of use of inpatient services is more efficient, and facilitates the urban population with equitable distribution of health workers in urban areas and also making insurance effective for urban residents who are unable to make the use of outpatient services more equitable.
