Abstract

This research examined social the distance of ethnic Papuan sriwijaya university collegian with collegian from Palembang at Sriwijaya University, Indralaya Campus, Ogan Ilir District, South Sumatra. This research aimed to know underlying factor and form of social distance between Papuan collegian and Collegian from Palembang in Sriwijaya University. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative method. Observation, documentation, and interview were data collection techniques used by the researcher. This research used social distance concept by Emory Borgandus as analysis tool. the result of this research showed that underlying factors of social distance of papuan collegian with collegian from Palembang in Sriwijaya University were the difference of regional origian and loosening of relation between them in interacting, included affective, normative, interactive, cultural and habitual. the forms of social distance of Papuan collegian in Sriwijaya University with collegian from Palembang were tolerance and rejection attitude.
