Abstract

Farmers in the tidal swamp land in South Sumatra cultivate rice with broadcast system. Problems encountered in this cultivation is the uncontrolled growth of early rice crop due to weather. Seeds broadcast can experience water shortages or excess water. Hidropriming treatment is expected to overcome these problems and may increase the early growth of seedlings. Rice cultivars have different characteristics to the treatment hidropriming. Hidropriming is a simple technique by soaking the seeds using the water and then bring back its early water content to increase the viability and vigor. This study aims to identify the morphophysiological character of some rice cultivars at seedling stage against hidropriming treatment. The research was implemented in January to April 2016 in the Laboratory of Plant Physiology for hidropriming treatment and in the Greenhouse of Department of Agriculture, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University to test the growth of the seedlings after hydropriming treatment The first experiment used factorial completely randomized design with three replications and two factors: seed soaking time length, namely Tl (6 hours), T2 (12 hours), T3 (18 hours), T4 (24 hours), TS (30 hours), T6 (36 hours), T7 (42 hours) , T8 (48 hours), T9 (54 hours), TIO (60 hours) and Tl I (66 hours) and rice cultivars VI (Ciliwung), V2 (Ciherang), V3 (Betek Cicikali), V4 (FR 13A), VS (Inpara 4), V6 (Inpara 5), V7 (Inpara 7), V8 (Inpara 8), V9 (Inpara 9) and VI0 (Senia). The second experiment used a randomized block design factorial with two factors, namely without priming (Pl) and hidropriming (P2), rice cultivars Vl (Ciliwung), V2 (Betek cicikali), V3 (Ciherang), V4 (Inpara 9), VS (Inpara 5), V6 (Inpara 7). The results showed that there were differences in the appearance of the radicle of various cultivars tested after immersion, which is 24 hours (Ciliwung), 30 hours (Inpara 5, Ciherang and Betek cicikali), 42 hours (Inpara 4, Inpara 7 and Inpara 9), 48 hours (Inpara 8 and Senia) and 54 hours (FR13A). Betek cicikali and Inpara 9 are cultivars that best given hidropriming treatment before planting in the field because it has higher uniformity of its growth.
