Abstract

Melon (Cucumis melo L.) is one of the members of Cucurbitaceae originated from Africa, and is still retributed in Indonesia. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of various concentrations of BAP and various melon_ explants (Cucumis melo L) which is good for in vitro growth of melon buds. The research was conducted on November 2015 until March 2016 at Tissue Culture Laboratory of Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University Palembang. The method used in this research was Completely Randomzied Design (CRD) with factorial arrang the first factor was explants source treatment where D = leaves, B = hypocotyl, and A = roots, all explants were grown on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium. The second factor was lAA and BAP treatment where Mo = with out IAA and BAP, M1 = 0.1 ppm IAA + l ppm BAP, M2 = 0.1 ppm lAA + 1.5 ppm BAP, and M3 = 0.1 ppm IAA + 2 ppm BAP, with the total of all treatment 12 combinations, each treatments consisted of 20 units and the total was 240 experimental units. The result showed hypokotyl explants with out IAA and BAP was the medium that capable to form buds and leaves, the leaves explants with out IAA and BAP was the medium that capable to form roots, the hypocotyl and leaves explants with concentration of 0.1 ppm IAA + I ppm BAP was the good medium to form callus.
