Abstract

The research was conducted to evaluate the effect of water table at beginning of planting and the use of biochar on growth and yield of Tajuk variety shallots. The research was carried out in the experimental station of the Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya University started form March to May 2019. The research used bulb of Tajuk variety of shallots. This study used a randomized completely block design consisted of 12 combination treatments with 3 replications and 2 plants per units, so that there· were 72 plants. The first factor was biochar consisted of Po = 100% of soil ( control), P1 = 1O ton ha·1 of biochar, P2 = 20 ton ha·1 of biochar. While the second factor was water table they were T0 = kontrol, T1 = l O cm from above soil surface, T2 = 15 cm from above soil surface, T3 = 20 cm above soil surface. The observed parameters were of plant height, leaf number, tiller number, plant fresh height (shoot+bulb), bulb diameter, blub fresh weight, dry blub weight, and root length. The results showed that the combination treatment of biochar and water table P1 To affect growth. The best use of biochar was in the treatment of P1 = I 0 ton ha·1 of biochar or equivalent to 52 g per plant. Conversely, the treatment of water tabel the best results treatment was To (control), this indicated that Tajuk variety shallots could not develope in the treatments of water table surface.
