Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life. Ilir 23 public health center has exclusive breastfeeding coverage which is still low in 2018 at 42.4%. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the exclusive breastfeeding program in the working area of 23 ilir public health center in the city of Palembang. This study used descriptive qualitative method. There were 13 informants in the study consisting of the head of the puskesmas, nutrition program holders, midwives, cadres and mothers who had 0-6 months infants selected purposively. Data collection is done by in-depth interviews, observations and document review. Validity test is done using triangulation of sources, theories and methods. The results showed that in the input component, the public health center had no breast milk counselor, the public health center facilities had a breast milk room but there was no complete infrastructure, a method of increasing exclusive breast milk coverage based on the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Process component, planning in the puskesmas according to the Proposed Activity Plan (RUK) document and Activity Implementation Plan (RPK), the implementation of exclusive breast milk socialization is conducted at integrated healthcare center, exclusive breast milk counseling has no schedule and breast milk support groups have not been formed. Overall, the implementation of the exclusive breast milk program at the 23 Ilir public health center has not yet run well. It is expected that the public health center will form breast milk counselors, breast milk support groups and complete the infrastructure at the public health center, so that the implementation of the exclusive breast milk program runs optimally.
