Abstract
Characteristic of Lesions on Chest X-Ray of Pulmonary Tuberculosis in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Pulmonary tuberculosis is still a health problem in Indonesia because of the high number of cases, reaching 842.000 cases per year. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are necessary to decrease the transmission rate, morbidity, and mortality. The bacteriological examination is the gold standard for the diagnosis of tuberculosis, but only 30-70% of cases show a positive result, so the diagnosis can be made based on clinical symptoms and chest radiological examination. The availability of chest X-rays in Indonesia is quite extensive and the cost is quite affordable. This study aims to determine the characteristics of the chest X-ray which indicate the pulmonary tuberculosis infection as a diagnostic support. This descriptive observational study using data from the medical record of pulmonary tuberculosis patients in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin from the time period July 2019-December 2019 confirmed by microscopic sputum examination. Chest radiographs of 95 patients who suited the criteria of a sample, read by a radiologist at the Radiology Installation of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin. Data were processed using IBM SPSS Statistics Version 26 to observe the distribution of each variable. The lesions that were commonly found were consolidation (46.3%) and cavity (45.3%); other lesions that were quite common were fibrosis (24.2%) and pleural effusion (20%); other findings were miliary nodules (5.3%), atelectasis (5.3%), no lesions (4.2%), calcification (3.2%), and lymphadenopathy (3.2%). Based on location, most lesions were located in the upper right zone (56.8%); 46.3% in the upper left zone, 37.9% in the middle left zone; 26.3% in the right middle zone; the other findings are in the lower left zone (21.1%) and in the lower right zone (16.8%). Based on the number of lesions, in the lung parenchyma, solitary lesions 34.7% and multiple lesions 58.9%; in the pleura, solitary lesions 18.9% and multiple lesions 1.1%; and in the mediastinum, solitary lesions were 2.1% and multiple lesions were 1.1%. The main features of pulmonary tuberculosis chest x-ray lesions in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang are multiple consolidations and multiple cavities in the upper right zone.
