Abstract

Background: The COVID-19 that attacks the entire world has been declared a pandemic by WHO on March 11, 2020. The spread of COVID-19 through droplets from human to human has made the spread of this disease very aggressive. This outbreak can affect all ages including adolescents, namely groups of individuals with ages 10-18 years. One of the preventions to decrease the spread of COVID-19 is by implementing physical distancing behavior, namely maintaining a minimum distance of one to two meters between individuals. The formation of a behavior is based on several factors such as the knowledge and perceptions each individual. This study aims to determine the effect of knowledge and perceptions about COVID-19 on physical distancing behavior in adolescents. Methods: This type of research is observational analytic with cross sectional research design. Sampling using multistage cluster random sampling technique with 273 adolescents in Palembang. Results: The results of statistical tests with the chi-square test found that there was a significant relationship between knowledge about COVID-19, perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, self-efficacy, and cues to action with physical distancing behavior with p-value < alpha (0.05). Based on the results of binary logistic regression, cues to action is the most dominant factor in influencing physical distancing behavior (OR = 14.153) Conclusion: The most influential component for the realization of physical distancing behavior is the cues to action in terms of the Health Belief Model theory.
