Abstract

This research examines the cultural capital of purun mat craftsmen in Menang Raya Village which is still maintained and developed by the pedamaran community. The purpose of the research is to understand what cultural capital the craftsmen of purun mats have. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques in the form of observations, in-depth interviews and documentation. This research uses the theory of cultural capital from Pierre Bourdieu. The results of this study show that the cultural capital of purun mat craftsmen in The Pedamaran Sub-district of Ogan Komering Ilir Regency is weaving skills, knowledge, education, and time management. There are also values contained in the craft of purun mats that can be categorized as the cultural capital of purun mat craftsmen namely the value of patience, perseverance and precision, economic value, cultural value, beauty value, and hard work. In addition, purun mat craftsmen are already in institutionalized condition, this is seen from the community retaining and developing the craft of purun mats as well as improving weaving skills by conducting the formation of purun groups.
