Abstract

Background: Malignant melanoma is a malignant tumor of melanocytes. The incidence of malignant melanoma has increased every year. In Indonesia, melanoma accounts for 7.9% of all skin malignancies. Tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) is a reflection of a good immune response against melanoma cells. It is known that TIL infiltrating provides a good prognosis. This study aims to determine the relationship between TIL and the clinicopathology of malignant melanoma patients at RSUP DR. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Methods: This type of research was an observational analytic study with a cross sectional design using HE preparations for malignant melanoma in the Department of Pathology Anatomy, RSUP DR. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Results: From 34 samples, it was found that malignant melanoma was found mostly at the age of 40-64 years (70,6%), dominated by women (58,8%), many of the samples had a history of work in the room (64,7%), is common in the lower extremities (47,1%) and the most common type is nodular melanoma (41,2%). The number of samples with high and low TILs is the same. There was no relationship between TIL and age (p = 1,000), there was no relationship between TIL and gender (p = 1,000), there was no relationship between TIL and work (p = 0,473), there was no relationship between TIL and tumor location (p = 0,247) and there was no relationship between TIL and histopathological type (p = 0,502) of malignant melanoma. Conclusion: TIL has no significant relationship with age, sex, occupation, tumor location and histopathological type of malignant melanoma. Key words: Malignant melanoma, TILs, clinicopathological characteristics, prognostic factors
