Abstract

The Tanjung Bungo area is in the Limapuluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra. The research was conducted on two basins located in the Tanjung Bungo area and its surroundings, namely the Batang Paiti sub-watershed and the Batang Batiung sub-watershed. Batang Paiti sub-watershed is located in the western part of the study area, and the Batang Batiung sub-watershed is located in the eastern part of the study area. The research was conducted using morphometric analysis of river basins, slopes, and valleys to obtain information on the level of tectonic activity in the study area which has led to the formation of current morphology and geological structures that may be active and affect the current surface shape. The analysis carried out includes morphometric indices such as Drainage Density (Dd), Channel Sinuosity (S), Bifurcation Ratio (Rb), Hypsometric Integral (HI), Asymmetry Factor (AF), Mountain Front Sinousity (Smf), and Valley floor width and height ratio (Vf). The results obtained in the Batang Paiti and Batang Batiung sub-watersheds show that the study area has a dendritic flow pattern river which is controlled by geological structures and tectonic deformation, and the main river is an old river, with steep slopes and stable erosion rates. IAT in the Tanjung Bungo area and its surroundings provides the final result in the form of tectonic class level 2 - 4 (weak to high tectonic activity) (El Hamdouni, 2008) or the research area is included in the area where the morphological formation process is controlled by tectonic activity.
