Abstract

The adsorption of carbon dioxide gas using layered double hydroxide Ni/Al and Ni/Cr as adsorbent has been done. Layered double hydroxide Ni/Al and Ni/Cr were synthesized by coprecipitation method and characterized using FT-IR spectrophotometer, XRD and XRF. Characterization of layered double hydroxide Ni/Al using XRD appeared in diffraction angle (2θ) at 11.544º and 60.96º with basal spacing 7.659 Å and 1.5186 Å while in the layered double hydroxide Ni/Cr has (2θ) at 63.35º with basal spacing 1.4669 Å. The result of characterization using FT-IR spectrophotometer showed Ni-O vibration on layered double hydroxide Ni/Al at wavenumber 840.96 cm-1 and Al-O at wavenumber 563.21 cm-1.While layered double hydroxide Ni/Cr has vibration Cr-O at wavenumber 671.23 cm-1 and Ni-O at wavenumber 833.25 cm-1. Characterization using XRF showed Ni/Al layered double hydroxide was succesfully synthesized with the percentage of composition 72.01% while in the layered double hydroxide Ni/Cr percentage composition of 110.64%. Adsorption of carbon dioxide gas is carried out by pressure variation, carbon dioxide gas time variation, adsorbent mass variation, and variation of adsorbent size. Adsorption of carbon dioxide gas using Ni/Al layered double hydroxide has optimum adsorption at 5 bar pressure, optimum time 60 minutes, with mass as 2 gram, and 200 mesh adsorbent size with adsorption capacity of 529.82 mg/g. While for Ni/Cr layered double hydroxide has optimum adsorption at 2 bar pressure, optimum time 60 minutes, with mass as 2 gram, and 200 mesh adsorbent size with adsorption capacity equal to 514.4 mg/g. Ni/Al and Ni/Cr layered double hydroxide also used to adsorb LPG. Ni/Al and Ni/Cr layered double hydroxide more selectiv to adsorb carbon dioxide gas than LPG adsorption.
