Abstract

Chili plants are one of the important commodities in Indonesia. In the cultivation of chili plants there are obstacles that cause a decrease in production. One of the causes of the decline in chili crop yields is viral disease. Viruses that often infect chili plants such as curly yellow virus and yellow virus. Viruses infecting plants are difficult to control. This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the effect of intercropping plants in suppressing the intensity of viral disease of chili plants and to determine the efficiency of holy basil plants as intercropping crop with chili plants. This research was an experiment arranged in a randomized block design (RBD) with two treatments and ten replications. The parameters observed in this study included the incidence of virus diseases, the intensity of virus diseases, and the number weight of the fruits produced. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that mixedcropping of chili with holy basil was able to reduce the population of vector trnasmiting virus disease on chili plants, but did not affect the incidence and intensity of viral diseases occurred. Holy basil plants which are intercropped with chili plants invited fruit fly which attacked fruit and vaused reduction of number and weight of chili fruits ready to be harvested.
