Abstract

The prevalence of drug abusers in Indonesia in 2015 has reached 4,098,029 people (2.2%) and in 2014 the prevalence of drug abuse in South Sumatera Province is 98,339 people (1.69%). The high use of narcotics will have an impact on cognitive dysfunction such as mental disorders, difficulty concentrating, behavioral disorders through brain neotransmitters that cause mood changes, impaired consciousness, and perception. The purpose of this study to determine the risk factors that affect the cognitive function of drug abusers in Ernaldi Bahar Hospital South Sumatra Province. This research is a quantitative research with cross-sectional study design, using purposive sampling technique with samples of 90 respondents with no more than 55 years of age and no brain injury. The sample in this study were all outpatients of drug abuser in Ernaldi Bahar Hospital. Data analysis performed was univariate, bivariate with chi-square and multivariate test using multiple logistic regression prediction model. The results showed that respondents who experienced cognitive impairment as much as 32.2%. The variable of number of narcotic substances used was the most dominant variable of disturbance to cognitive disorder after controlled by age, education and alcohol consumption (PR = 3,567; 95% CI = 1,281-9,933). A decrease in the number of cognitive impairments performed through good rehabilitation can restore the narcotics user not to use the prohibited substance again. For BNN, create a group of former drug users to do mentoring and softskill training in order to change his life for the better and no relapse.
