Abstract

Background: Ulcer is one of the common lesion in oral mucosa. Ulcer could be treated with topical drugs, but prolonged use of topical drugs could induced several side effect, so alternative drugs from herbal plant could be used, such as duku stem bark (Lansium domesticum). Duku stem bark contains flavonoid, saponin, alkaloid, and triterpenoid that increased healing process. This study was to determine the effect of duku stem bark extract gel on healing of wistar strain rats’ ulcer. Method: An in vivo experimental research study with pretest posttest only control group design was done. Total sample of 25 wistar strain rats were divided into 5 tested groups: group 5%, 10%, and 20% duku stem bark extracts gel, 0,1% triamcinolone acetonide as positive control group, and placebo gel as negative control group. The ulcers were induced at the lower lip mucosa of rats by applicating 3% hydrogen peroxide. Extract gels were applied to the ulcers 3 times a day for 14 days. Diameter of ulcer was measured on day 0,3,5,7,9,11,13, and 14 using the UNC-15 probe (mm). Data were analyzed using Kruskal Wallis and, Pairwise Comparison test. Result: This study showed that 20% duku stem baBackground: Ulcer is one of the common lesion in oral mucosa. Result: This study showed that 20% duku stem bark extract gel had significant effect in ulcer diameters on day 13 compared to other group (p <0,05). Conclusion: Duku stem bark extract gels could accelerate ulcer healing and could be used as an alternative plant for ulcer treatment.
