Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to explain the motives of Sarang Lang villagers, Pemulutan Barat, Ogan Ilir, in the implementation of the Joli tradition. This study used a qualitative approach. The informants went along on this study were nineteen people. The techniques of data collection used were documentation, interviews and observation. The data analysis techniques used were data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The validity test of the data used included the credibility test, transferability test, dependability test, and confirmability test. The results of this study proved that the motives that most influence Sarang Lang villagers are biogenetic motive. The willingness of the community to implement the Joli tradition arises from themselves and without any compulsion from other parties. The second motive that influences it is the theogenetic motive, in the form of result of religious activities that influence the motives for implementation the tradition of Joli and the enforcement of religious rules in the implementation of the Joli tradition. Meanwhile, the motive that did not get affection form the implementation of the tradition Joli motives was sosiogenetic, in the form of the interaction between the surrounding environment and other cultures that do not influence the motives for implementation tradition of Joli.
