Abstract

This research discusses "Utilization of Water Transportation by Service Users at Pier 16 Ilir Palembang". The problem in this research is regarding the use of water transportation by service users and the background of still using water transportation. This study uses the determination of purposive model informants, data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observation, and documentation. This study uses the theory of rational choice from James Coleman, which is an act of a person having a goal and that goal is something that is determined by preferences or choices and values. The results of this study indicate that the use of water transportation by service users at the 16 Ilir Pier is used as a tourist attraction, a means of crossing, a place for trading, a means for traveling, a means for going home and a means of transporting goods. In the background, service users still use water transportation, there are three reasons, namely water transportation is more economical, water transportation is more practical, and access to land transportation is limited.
