Abstract

Background: Laparotomy is a surgical procedure in the form of an incision in the abdominal wall with moderate to severe pain intensity. Postoperative pain is a case of acute pain both pathophysiologically and therapist. Uncontrolled pain can affect quality of life, risk of complications and persistent pain. The most commonly used postoperative analgetic drugs are Ketorolac (NSAIDs) and Paracetamol. This study aims to determine the description of the use of paracetamol with ketorolac as pain management in postoperative laparotomy pain in RSMH. Method: This research is a retrospective descriptive study using secondary data from postoperative laparotomy patients at RSMH for the period January 2019 – December 2019 who met the inclusion criteria. Results: : 56 postoperative laparotomy patients, most postoperative laparotomy patients were male patients (51%), the most age range was 18-45 years (55.4%), the treatment rooms were mostly wards (94.6%). Elective surgery were mostly performed (82.1%). the longest stay is 5 days (21.4%). In the surgical, tumor was the most common diagnosis (33.9%) and malignancy in the obgyn department (7.1%). General anesthesia was the most common type of anesthesia (89.3%). Ketorolac was the most common analgesic from the first to the fifth day after laparotomy. Ketorolac was mostly given to patients with a pain scale of 3 (25%). Paracetamol (IV) was mostly given to patients with a pain scale of 4 (7.1%). Paracetamol (PO) is the choice as an analgesic home remedy (14.3%). However, mefenamic acid was the most commonly administered analgesic for home remedy. Conclusion: An overview of the use of paracetamol with ketorolac as pain management in postoperative laparotomy patients at RSMH for the period January 2019 – December 2019, Ketorolac (IV) is most widely used as postoperative analgesic drug for the first day to the fifth day. Paracetamol (IV) is only given on the first day postoperative and given orally the next day.
