Abstract

The Halang Formation in the Mentasan and surrounding areas has quite complex turbidite depositional characteristics with the association of turbidite facies and various fossil foraminifera contents. This study aims to determine the characteristics of the dispersion of the Halang Formation turbidite facies association and biostratigraphic correlation analysis that forms the Mentasan and surrounding areas. The object of analysis uses the Measuring Section method in the path of field outcrop observation and rock sampling for paleontological analysis and rock facies. Based on the merger of the analysis that has been done, the distribution of facies in the Mentasan and surrounding areas is included in the Classical Turbidite (CT). The facies of carbonate sandstone and sandstone deposited during the Middle to Late Miocene with deep sea depositional environments or in the bathymetry zone are in the Outer Neritic to Upper Batial. The results of the study of turbidite deposits on rocks of the Halang Formation in the Mentasan and surrounding areas can be concluded that the Halang Formation is composed of a pile of lobes that form a Submarine Fan, where the depositional environment is interpreted to be in the Submarine Fan with zone changes in suprafan lobes on mid fan towards plain basin.
