Abstract
Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (MIP) carbonyl has been successfully made by cooling-heating method. Carbaryl as template is incorporated into acetonitrile solvent, then added functional monomer (Methacrylic Acid), cross-linker (Ethylene Glycol Dimethacrylate), and initiator (Benzoyl Peroxide). The pre-polymer solution was stirred and then cooled in a freezer at -5°C for 1 hour, followed by heating at 75°C. For 3 hours, 80°C for 2 hours, and 85°C for 1 hour. Optimization of time and temperature has been successfully done with optimal results and a shorter time than previous research. Templates within the polymer particles are removed by washing the particles repeatedly with the solvent by optimizing the immersion time to increase the effectiveness of the cavity formed. Furthermore, the polymer is characterized using FTIR and XRD. FTIR results indicate that the absorption of an amine group which is a typical group of carbaryl for unleached-polymer samples has a lower transmittance than a carbaryl MIP sample. This shows that the absorbance value of the washed polymer is greater than that of the carbonyl MIP that has been disposed of the template. The absorbance value is directly proportional to the concentration of the chemical bonding group, the greater the concentration the greater the absorbance value. XRD results show that unleached-polymer have an intensity of 3000 cps, the intensity is higher than MIP carbaryl. High intensity indicates stronger bonds and smaller boundaries between grains.
