Abstract

The vertical village is a representation of vertical housing such as flats with differences that can accommodate all occupant activities by not eliminating the locality of the affected community and maintaining the characteristics, patterns of creativity and cultural patterns inherent in the community that contribute to environmental development (M. Farid Al Asy Ary , Dwight M. Rondonuwu, Fela Warouw: 2018). The design begins with literature studies and field surveys. Literature study of urban villages or squatter, description and characteristics of the village and building precedents designed with the concept of a flat village. The field survey data collection on house typology was based on the size of the house, the pattern and location of circulation of vehicles and humans, supporting facilities such as mosques, and settler social activities in communal spaces, especially on river banks in the region. The survey results are used to calculate the number of occupancy and types that must be reconditioned, analized about the types of residential units, the spaces needed that must be in the village housing and analysis of the environmental aspects that exist within and around the site, then formulated to in the design concept. The design in this vertical village relocates settlers to vertical housing that is adjusted to the predetermined typology distribution. The building uses a structure that is suitable for river banks, namely stage foundations with roofs and ventilated in walls. In addition, the building also uses ramp and skybridge as a means of rapid evacuation while maintaining continuity of inter-floor circulation to create a horizontal village atmosphere in vertical housing. Another concept is to maximize openings in residential units with cross ventilation using windows and roster. To create and accommodate social and trade activities with stalls and sidewalks as commonly found in urban villages there are new social spaces are located in the middle and business units at the bottom of the building and in front of houses in several residential units on the 2nd floor , 3 and 4.
