Abstract

This study aims to determine the number of Purkinje cells of mice cerebellum of pups after induction of Ochratoxin A during organogenesis period. Thirty pregnant mice were divided randomly into 5 groups of 6. Ochratoxin A was dissolved in sodium bicarbonate, and administered orally on seventh to fifteenth days of gestation at dosage of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 mg/kg bw. The remaining animals were used as an untreated control, and placebo were given by Sodium Bicarbonate. Dams were maintained until delivery. At 21 days of age, the offspring were sacrificed and taken his brain. Brains of mice subsequently prepared by parafin method and stained using Haematoxylin Eosin staining. Data Analysis using one way ANAVA and DMRT for the significan ce. The results showed that Ochratoxin A given to pregnant mice during the period of organogenesis causes impaired growth of Purkinje cells of mice treated with the more marked decline in the number of Purkinje cells compared with control and placebo.
