Abstract

The research was conducted in experimental field and Laboratory of Phytopathology, Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The objectives of the research was to comprehed the resistant response of five maize accessions to leaf spot disease of maize case by B. maydis. The experimental research was conducted from October 2016 to March 2017. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 5 replications. Each treatment unit consisted of 3 plant, so that the research needed 75 plants. The results showed that incubation period of B. maydis on 5 maize accessions varied among the accessions. The highest disease incidence at final observation was found in V3 (Accession Unsri-J5) with disease incidence of 22,04%, while the lowest was found in V5 (Accession Unsri-J8) with disease incidence of 17,89%. The result of disease intensity analyses showed that, at final observation, the lowest average disease intensity was found in V5 (Accession Unsri-J8) amounted to 23,20%, while the highest was found in accession V2 (Unsri J-2) with average disease intensity amounted to 27,47%. The result of variance analyses showed that the highest plant was accession V4 (Unsri J-7) with average height of 70,97 cm, while the lowest was accession V2 (Unsri J-2) with average height of 61,05 cm. The result of maize grain weighing showed that the weight of maize grain varied among accessoins. V1 (Accession Unsri J-1) had average weight 158,00 g, V2 (Accession Unsri J-2) 162,67 g, V3 (Accession Unsri-J5) 164,00 g, V4 (Accession Unsri J-7) 156,67 g, and V5 (Accession Unsri-J8) 153,33 g. Keywords: leaf spot, Bipolaris maydis, maize
