Abstract
The car painting industry is one of many industries that use paint in their work process. Paint is one of the lead (Pb) exposure sources, which lead is used as a pigment in paint. Lead has extensive toxic effects on humans and can damage the nervous system, digestive tract, reduce fertility, and kidney function. Painting workers are one of the workers who have a risk of exposure to Pb mainly through inhalation in the continuous exposure time from the use of spray paint. This study aimed to analyze health risks due to Pb exposure to painting division workers at the Car Painting Workshop, Ilir Barat I District, Palembang City. This research is a descriptive study using quantitative methods, and the analysis used is univariate and Environmental Health Risk Analysis (EHRA). The research sample was all 14 painting workers at the Workshop, Ilir Barat I District, Palembang City. Measurement of Pb concentration in the painting division was carried out using a High Volume Air Sampler (HVAS) using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) method. The measurement results show that the Pb content in the air of the painting division ranges from 0.00651-0.01529 mg/m3; this lead concentration is still below the Threshold Limit Value . The results showed the non-carcinogenic risk of real-time exposure workers RQ> 1 (14.3%) and lifetime exposure RQ> 1 (78.6%). On the other hand, carcinogenic health risks of painting workers for real time and lifetime exposure is all workers not at risk of cancer ECR <10-4. Risk management that can be done is to reduce the maximum Pb concentration to 0.0067 mg / m3, the recommended exposure frequency to 204 days / year and the length of exposure to 6 hours / day. In suggestion that the painting section provide a spraybooth with a ventilation system and air filter, periodically maintenance the exhaust filter, do painting technique training, and provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for painting workers like respirators, gloves, etc.
