Abstract
On March 15, 2019, there was a tragedy of mass shooting terror at the Al Noor mosque and the Islamic Center Lindwood Christchurch, New Zealand. The shooting was broadcast by the perpetrator live on social media in which 50 worshipers were killed while hundreds of others were injured. This incident was the first and largest act of terrorism in New Zealand. The idea of extremism and supremacy declared by the perpetrator as a heroic action against immigration is a big challenge for the peaceful conditions of heterogeneous society in New Zealand. The dissemination of violent extremism content on various platforms, the number of supremacist groups in New Zealand, and the potential for upheaval by the Muslim community over this action are things that require the right strategy. The solidarity movement that occurred from community is an indication that in addition to government actions, there are other actor that play a role in the post-terror peace restoration process in Christchurch. To understand this, this research examines the strategies applied by New Zealand to deal with and restore peaceful conditions after the terror attack in Christchurch using a qualitative descriptive method, through analysis of approaches taken by actors from various levels (upper, middle and basic) in the pyramid theory of development peace John Paul Lederach. The authors found that the New Zealand government, police, academics and religious leaders have a role to play in supporting the restoration of peace. Indigenous Maori also play a role in creating the unity of New Zealand society. Meanwhile, the authors find that this incident has triggered changes to New Zealand's weapons laws, terrorism laws, social media surveillance, and international coordination action to handling violence extremist online content, all of which are included in the strategy for handling and restoring peace after the terror attacks in Christchurch. Keywords: Christchurch, Peace Restoration Strategy, Mass Shooting, Terrorism, Right Wing Extremism.
