Abstract

Background : Gastroesophageal Reflux (GER) is a physiological conditon that occurs in infants. GER is referred to as backflow of the contents of the stomach (saliva, food-drinks, pancreeas secretion, or bile secretion) into the esophagus that goes unnoticed without being seen from the baby. Regurgitation is associated with the immaturity of lower esophageal sphincter which is the entrance of the esophagus with the stomach. IDAI has published a Gastroesophageal Disease Scoring Questionnaire that is useful for determining the severity of GER. The growth is increase in the size and number of cells and intercellular tissues is highly irreversible and quantitative, so it can be measured using units of length and weight. The purpose of this research is to know the correlation of score IDAI Gastroesophageal Reflux Scoring Questionnaire with growth rate in infants aged 1 to 4 months. Methods : This research used analytic obsevational method with cross sectional design. The population is infants aged 1-4 months and mothers who are in the Posyandu Working Area of Puskesmas Sekip Kota Palembang period October-November 2017. The sample consists of 91 babies produced by non-probability technique type Consecutive Sampling. Results : Data were collected at 23 Posyandu with total infant recorded is 110 infants and 91 infants who fulfilled inclusion criteria. Factors that had significant effect on infant growth rate were infant age (p = 0.017), question about how much fluid volume each time regurgitation appear (p = 0,029) and whether the infant refused to be fed when hungry (p = 0,028). There was a significant difference or a correlation between IDAI gastroesophageal reflux scoring with infant growth rate (p = 0.017). Conclusion : Baby age, infants's regurgitation volumes, and infants refuse to be fed when hungry is a determinant factor in infant growth rates. IDAI gastroesophageal reflux screening has a relationship with infant growth rate.
