Abstract
Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is a collection of complaints and or physical, emotional, and behavioral symptoms that occur in women of reproductive age that appear cyclic in the span of 7-10 days before menstruation and disappear after menstrual blood comes out at a level that is capable of influences the woman's lifestyle and work and is followed by a symptom-free period of time. Based on data from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2012, it was stated that 38.45% of women in the world experienced problems regarding Premenstrual Syndrome which had a higher prevalence in Asian countries compared to Western countries. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) in Adolescent Girls in SMA N 01 Palembang. This study uses a descriptive analytic method approach using cross sectional design. The population of this research is all female students at SMAN 01, Palembang City consisting of class X, XI and class XII, amounting to 778 students. Sample collection technique using proportional random sampling technique. The results showed that 32.4% had premenstrual syndrome. Bivariate analysis showed factors related to premenstrual syndrome, namely age of menarche in the fast category (p-value 0.002), family history (p-value 0,000), knowledge (p-value 0,000), physical activity in the low modarate (p-value 0.013), patterns sleep (p-value 0,000), body mass index (p-value 0,000), and anemia variable (p-value 0,000). The results of multivariate analysts showed the most dominant factor was sleep patterns with a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0,05) and the PR value 70,469 (95% Cl = 6,095 – 814,731). Maintaining good sleep patterns will reduce the risk of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS).
