Abstract

Introduction. Epilepsy is one of the oldest neurological diseases, found in all ages, and can cause impairment and mortality. This study aims to obtain a description of patients with epilepsy in Polyclinic of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang, period of 1st January 2016-31st July 2017. Methods. The research was conducted in the form of descriptive cross-sectional observational survey. This study used secondary data samples from medical records of epilepsy patients who were treated at the Polyclinic of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang from 1st January to 31st July 2017. Data is obtained by total sampling method. The data is grouped by variables then processed and presented in the form of frequency tables and narration. Results: The results showed most epilepsy patients are found in the age group 5- 14 years as many as 42 patients (26.75%). Based on sex, epilepsy was predominantly male as many as 81 patients (51.60%). Patients with epilepsy with the type of seizure generalized seizures most commonly found as many as 96 patients (61.15%). Seen from family history of seizures, most epilepsy patients had a family history of seizures of 99 (63.06%). Based on previous disease history, epilepsy patients were most commonly found with previous non-febrile seizures as many as 65 patients (41.41%). Conclusion: Epilepsy is most prevalent in the group of patients 5-14 years of age, male sex, with a generalized type of seizure, has a family history of seizures and previous disease history of non-febrile seizure.
