Abstract
Excessive exposure to UV rays can cause tanning, skin photoaging, erythema, and surnburn. Lycopene compounds can be used as active substances in preparations such as topical lotions. This research aimed to formulate tomato fruit n-hexane extract into spray lotion and determining the value of sun protecting factor (SPF). Extraction of tomato fruit was done with n-hexane solvent by liquid-liquid extract method. Spray lotion prepation was made by variating the extract concentration 1, 2, and 3%. The SPF of this spray lotion and extracts of tomato was determined by in-vitro method with Petro equation. Physical quality test preparations including organoleptic test, detemination of homogenity, pH, stickiness, spread power, washable power, protection power, pump delivery, and viscosity. The results indicated evaluation of physicaly quality test satisfied preparations requitments but stickiness does not satisfiy requitment .The SPF values of tomato fruit extract and every formula were respectively of 3,193 (minimum protection), 3,490 (minimum protection), 5,534 (medium protection), 1.063 (ineffective), 3.127 (minimum protection), 3,308 (minimum protection) and 5.001 (medium protection). The result showed that the SPF value on variation of extract concentrations in spray lotion preparation was lower than the SPF value on tomato fruit extract. Stability test result indicated optimum formula stable of centrifugal test, stability against light and sunlight exposure but does not in the cycling test state. Stability against light test and sunlight exposure experience %decrease of SPF value 5,86870 and 17,1722. Based results of the research, it can be concluded tomato fruit n-hexane extract can be made in form the sunscreen spray with the ability to absorb UV rays so it can protect skin from sunlight exposure
