Abstract

The aim of the study is determining whether there is a role of social support toward emotional exhaustion. This study hypothesizes that there is a role of social support toward emotional exhaustion. This study used 131 permanent lecturers at X University as partisipants and 30 permanent lecturers as a trial partisipants. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. The measuring instrument that used is social support scale which refers to social support type by Sarafino and Smith (2011) and emotional exhaustion scale that refers to emotional exhaustion components by Maslach, Schaufeli and Leiter (2001). Data analysis used simple regression. The result of simple regression shows R square = 0,233, F = 39,137 and p = 0,000 (p<0,05). This means that social support has a role toward emotional exhaustion. Thus, the hypothesis could be accepted and social support contribution toward emotional exhaustion is 23,3%.
