Abstract

Introduction: Mental disorder is a change in mental function that causes suffering to individuals and obstacles in carrying out social functions, caring for themselves and work. Perception and attitude are things that affect the emergence of mental disorders and seeking treatment behavior. Data on medical seeking behavior among medical students in Palembang is still unknown. This study was conducted to determine treatment seeking behavior in medical students who experience mental emotional disorders. Method: This study was a descriptive observational study with a cross sectional design. The research subjects were students from semester 1-7 (class of 2015 – class 2018) Study Program of Medical Education Faculty of Medicine, University of Sriwijaya Palembang. Result: Found 82 students who met the inclusion criteria. The average age group is 19. The majority of the sexes are women (74.4%). The most distributed distribution of student aid sources was family (38.2%). The most recent distribution asked for the most help was last week (74.5%). Conclusion: Of the 82 students who had mental emotional disorders, only 55 students had treatment seeking behavior. The average number of student ages is maximum and from class 2015. Most of the students are Muslim and live in boarding houses compared to staying at home.
