Abstract
Background: Childhood obesity or children who are obese have a habit of eating foods that are high in sugar and sticky which can cause dental caries. Obesity and dental caries in children are significant health problems. The purpose of this systematic review is to determine the relationship between childhood obesity and caries. Method: The type of research used is a systematic literature study with qualitative analysis. Results: This study involved twelve journals that were selected from the PUBMED journal databases which were searched using a keyword-Boolean operator combination. Cross-sectional journals within the last 15 years discussing obesity in children according to the classification of BMI (Body Mass Index) and dental caries measured using a validated scale were included. Conclusion: There is a relationship between childhood obesity and caries (n = 6). Factors of food intake, environment, socioeconomic status and cultural differences are factors that can affect childhood obesity and caries.
