Abstract

This study aims to analyze the competitiveness of rubber commodity in South Sumatera Province. The framework that used is the concept of competitiveness and the theory of competitive advantage. The type of the research was descriptive explanative. The data used by researcher are primary data and secondary data from 2015-2019. Primary data were obtained from interviews with the Plantation Office of South Sumatra Province and the GAPKINDO in South Sumatra. The secondary data obtained from literature studies that related to this research. Based on the analysis results, it shows that the competitiveness of the rubber commodity in South Sumatra is low. This can be seen from the four factors that determinants of competitive advantage included conditions factor, demand conditions, firm strategy, structure, and rivalry, related and supporting industry, and additional factors that is the role of government. South Sumatera rubber plantations were not managed efficiently so that they did not produce in maximum. Rubber demand also decreased based on data of the rubber’s volume exports. The downstream industry in South Sumatra has not developed yet. The strategy applied was not optimal and the role from the Government of South Sumatra was lack.
