Abstract

This study aims to determine Biology question’s the composition of topics distribution and cognitive level of Cambridge IGCSE. The research used descriptive-qualitative method. Data collection techniques used documentation of 40 Biology question of Cambridge IGCSE Paper 1 and Paper 2 in 2016-2018 for the period May-June and October-November. The results showed that the composition of topics that always appeared on Paper 1 and Paper 2 exams are Topic 16 Reproduction, Topic 1 Characteristics And Classification Of Living Organisms, Topic 17 Inheritance and Topic 14 Coordination And Response While the topics that rarely appeared were Topic 13 Excretion in Humans, Topic 10 Diseases and Immunity and Topic 15 Drugs. Topics with the highest percentage of Coginitive Levels based on the Coginitive Levels of overall topic, specifically C1 on Topic 16 Reproduction 5.1%, C2 on topic 19 Organisms and Their Environment 4.6%, C3 on Topic 17 Inheritance 5% and C4 on topic 19 Organisms and Their Environment 1%. The composition of the cognitive level of the 803 analyzed items varied from remembering (C1), understanding (C2), applying (C3) and analyzing (C4) with a consecutive percentage of 45%; 33%; 20%; 2%. Thus, it means that the Biology Cambridge IGCSE Paper 1 and Paper 2 from 803 questions for the period May-June and October-November 2016-2018 dominantly measure low levels of cognitive processes, specifically remembering (C1) and understanding (C2).
