Abstract

Sunscreen is a cosmetic preparation that functions to protect the skin from exposure UVA and UVB rays. One of the natural ingredients that has the potential to act as sunscreen are red pedada leaves (Sonneratia caseolaris (L.) Engl.)Which contain flavonoids which can work as antioxidants by absorbing UV rays. Sunscreen cream with natural ingredients made with type O/W and its effectiveness was measured in-vitro by the SPF value using the Mansur equation. Condenced extract was standardized to ensure that the extract meets the quality as an active pharmaceutical substance. Each formula contains 0 gram (placebo), F1: 5 grams, F2: 10 grams and F3: 15 grams of extract. Measurement of the SPF value in the extract using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer instrument obtained results with a value of 29.070; and P, F1, F2 and F3 respectively: 1,244; 16,282, 19,406 and 23,993. Extract, F1, F2 and F3 are included in the SPF category with ultra protection which was the category the highest protection against UV rays. The physical evaluation of the preparations was measured by organoleptic parameters, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, dispersibility, adhesion, washability and protection power, cycling stability test and exposure to 254 nm UV lamps. The results of the physical evaluation of the preparation meet the standard requirements as a good sunscreen and are declared stable. Statistical data analysis was performed to saw the differences in each formula with SPSS 24 for windows by one way ANOVA method with a significance level of p <0.05. The results of statistical analysis obtained a significance value of p = 0.00 which indicates that there was a significant difference between formulas on the SPF value of cream. Keywords: Red pedada leaves, sunscreen, cream, SPF, UV A, UV B.
