Abstract
The behavior of expansive clay is strongly influenced by water, so it needs soil improvement efforts, one of which is the electrokinetic method. The electrokinetic method is carried out by placing the anode and cathode into the ground at a certain distance which is then energized with a certain voltage and time. Soil repair was carried out by two methods of making the test object and the variation of the voltage, namely 3 volts, 6 volts, and 9 volts with a flow time of 3 days. The research that was observed and analyzed was the effect of the electrokinetic process on the shear strength value of expansive clay based on the Free Compressive Strength test. The test was carried out at the Soil Mechanics Laboratory of Sriwijaya University. The results showed that the value of soil compressive strength (qu) increased along with the increase in the amount of stress applied. In addition, the method used also affects the resulting soil compressive strength (qu). The original soil compressive strength value is 0.051 kg / cm2. The highest value of soil compressive strength (qu) occurred in Method I with a voltage of 9 volts, namely 0.187 kg / cm2.
