Abstract

The reasearch objective was to know the effect of blade rotation speed and type of plant that used for feeding the livestock to the perforamnce of modified power thresher on chopping process. This research was conducted on March until August 2018 at Machinery Workshop of Horticultural and Food Crops Agricultural Department South Sumatra Province. This research used Factorial Group Randomized Design with two treatment factors consisting of blade rotation speed with three levels ±1,000 rpm, ±,1,200 rpm and ±1,400 rpm and type of plant material with three materials of rice straw, elephant grass, and palm oil leaf. This research consisted three parameters of machine effectiveness (kg/hour), chopping result uniformity (%), and fuel consumption (l/hour). The result of this research showed that the different of blade rotation speed had a significant effect on effective capacity (kg/hour), chopping yield uniformity (%) and fuel consumption (l/hour). The combination of interaction between blade rotation speed and type of material had a significant effect on effective capacity. The best treatment was found on the treatment combination of blade rotation speed ±1,400 rpm and palm oil leaf (A3B3), with the magnitude of ffective machine capacity was 26.21 kg/hour, chopping yield uniformity higher than 5 cm (A2B3) with the magnitude 24.84% and the magnitude of fuel consumption (A1B3) was 0.49 l/hour.
