Abstract
Antihyperlipidemic activity test of ethanol extract beluntas leaves (Pluchea indica L.) in male wistar albino rats induced propylthiouracil has been done. Beluntas leaves (Pluchea indica L.) contain flavonoid, alkaloid, tannins, steroid, and saponin, so it could act as antihyperlipidemic. The purpose of this research was to discover the potential of ethanol extract beluntas leaves toward reduction of total cholesterol level and LDL (low density lipoprotein) level. The sample animal divided in to five groups consisting of positive control group (simvastatin 0.193 mg/200 gBW), negative control group (sodium CMC 0.5%), and three test group (ethanol extract with dosage 150 mg/200 gBW, 300 mg/200 gBW and 600 mg/200 gBW). The rats were given high-fat supplement and propylthiouracil for 14 days to increase cholesterol, and the extract given for the next 14 days. Rats total cholesterol level after induced is 94.43 mg/dL dan 29.41 mg/dL can be stated as hyperlipidemic if total cholesterol level >54 mg/dL and LDL level >27 mg/dL, and rats weight after induced is 239.38 g. The result showed ethanol extract beluntas leaves dosage 600 mg/200 gBW could reduce total cholesterol level and LDL level significantly of 53.85% and 51.56%. This point indicated that the ethanol extract beluntas leaves has an antihyperlipidemic activity and there were no significant differences compared with simvastatin (p>0.05). The effective dosage for reduction of total cholesterol level was 519.94 mg/200 gBW and for the reduction of LDL level was 550 mg/200 gBW.
