Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the application of discovery learning models to student learning outcomes in the structure and function on plants. The research method used was pre-experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Students involved in the study were 35 people who came from class XI IPA 2 SMA Srijayanegara Palembang. Sampling was carried out in a simple random, learning outcome data taken using the multiple-choice question instrument (25 questions). Normality test and hypothesis test are respectively using Shapiro-Wilk and paired sample t-test. The results showed that the application of the discovery learning model had a significant effect on the learning outcomes of students with Sig. (2-tailed) <0.05. Improved learning outcomes included in the medium category with the value of n-gain = 0.59. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the application of discovery learning models can improve student learning outcomes on the topic of plant structure and function.
