Abstract

This study aims to describe students' problem solving skill in mathematics after the implementation of the drawing or diagram making strategy in class VII SMPN 6 Sungaiselan. The research is descriptive type with 28 students of VII.A class at SMPN 6 Sungaiselan as the subject. The data was collected using a written test consisting of 3 problem solving questions which were then analyzed according to the indicators of Polya's math problems solving technique. Based on the result of study, the average mathematics problem solving skills of class VII.A students of SMPN 6 Sungaiselan was 60.17 which was categorized as sufficient. The indicator that most often appears is the indicator of 'understanding the problem' at 67.46%. Meanwhile, the indicator that appeared the least was the indicator that 'looking back' at 47.62%. Therefore, it is necessary to provide scaffolding, prepare more time during the learning process, and cooperative learning so that students can carry out the stages of the problem solving well.
